Your fashion is important. Have you ever had a bad day because you felt like your outfit was off? Do you spend extra time picking out the perfect outfit in the morning or night before? While physical appearance isn’t everything, there is a direct tie in between psychology and fashion that most people aren’t aware of.
I’m going to explain exactly why your fashion is important and how it can change your days.
What does your fashion say about you?
Think about the last time you got dressed. What was it for? Work? A weekend brunch?
What type of thought did you put into it? Did you dress a certain way because someone told you to?
What thoughts were running through your mind as you were getting dressed?
Next time you get dressed, or buy new clothes, stop yourself mid thought and think out loud.
You have calculated reasons behind every purchase or choice of clothing because of the way your fashion makes you feel.
No matter who you are, everyone has a unique sense of style. Whether you realize it or not, you choose your outfits based on the way they make you feel and the way you would want others to feel about you.
Sweatpants for the day? You want to FEEL comfy and relaxed.
Dressing up for a party? You want to feel fun!
At the end of the day, clothes have an impact on the way feel and that influences what we choose to wear.
Psychology and fashion
While a lot of people love the concept of fashion, there are still many that roll their eyes when they hear the word.
At times, it has a negative connotation associated with it.
No matter who you are, you feel something when you hear the word.
If you’re like me, you get excited. Fashion is about so much more.
It’s sad to me that some only think of it as clothes or the brands you spend money on.
It’s about your way of life. Fashion is your lifestyle, not just clothing or the way you style your hair.
It’s an outlet for you to be authentic in who you were made to be.
Science actually indicates that our clothing choices affect the way we behave, our attitudes, personality, mood, confidence, and the way we engage with others.
Think about the last time you killed it at work because of what you wore?
This is part of the reason dressing appropriately for an interview is so important.
Or what about the last time you got all done up to go out with friends?
I personally love setting aside time to pick the perfect outfit for my day! It sets the tone for the journey I embark on throughout the day.
Could you imagine if you weren’t allowed your own self expression? Think about one of the first ways we express ourselves.
We do it through our outfit choices. They speak for us before we even say a word.
Some of the most iconic people are known for their outfit choices over time and it’s all due to self expression!
What it comes down to is not to feel guilty about putting thought into what you wear! What does fashion mean to you?
