When I was younger I had a tendency to learn things the hard way. Yes, I still struggle with this from time to time but I’ve learned that protecting your peace will protect your life.
Our mind is our most precious asset
Every thought we have shapes our lives. With thousands of thoughts per day it’s easy to jump off the peace bandwagon. Our mind can work for us or against us, we hold the power within.
This morning while meditating I took a page out of Jay Shetty’s book Think Like a Monk (literally and figuratively.) I practiced repeating to myself and aloud “ease, joy, balance, peace.”
While it may have felt a little awkward at first, I quickly realized how repeating words over and over again engrains them in our thoughts. What are you telling yourself?
Do you believe life is happening to you or for you? Does everything seem hard in your life? It all starts and ends with the thoughts you have.
Protecting your peace is certainly easier said than done, which is why it takes practice and persistence. We learn patterns, habits and behaviors over time; some good for us, some bad. If you’re stuck in a cycle of negative thought patterns, it’s time to stop and protect your peace.
Protecting your peace will protect your life
There is so much going on in our world today, perhaps more than ever. With so many of our loved ones sick, out of a job or losing their life to any one of the current circumstances, Fear, danger and uncertainty seem to lurk in every corner. Uncertainty alone can cause any of these other emotions and outcomes.
When you’re facing a period of any of these things, remember that you are not alone. While our circumstances may differ, we are all navigating the same world together.
Take time each day to protect your peace. Spend some time alone in a quiet place where you can simply sit and practice gratitude. There is always something to be thankful for.
If you’re struggling with practicing gratitude, try committing to sitting alone for 10 minutes. Repeat a phrase to yourself over and over while sitting there.
To protect my peace I repeat affirmations to myself each day, even when I’m outside of meditation. They are always positive and intentional.
Some of my affirmations are:
- I can and I will…
- I am in control of my own happiness
- I choose kindness
Let go to protect your peace
I’m not suggesting you can rid your life of every negative thing. There will always be a job loss, breakup, end of friendships, difficult people, losing a loved one, etc. You name it, it will happen. It’s how you respond to these situations that will protect your peace.
You are the owner of all your thoughts. You have the ability to respond in whatever way you choose. Letting go of negativity will bring you more peace than anything else ever will.
Remember when someone does or says something negative to you, it’s about them, not you. Do not take that burden on. You are whole, you are one and you are strong. You are the only one in charge of your peace.
Let go of the things or people in your life that don’t serve you. Sure, there are situations where you may have to deal with these things on an ongoing basis, but don’t let them live rent free in your head. Simply let them pass and know you are in charge of your emotions And thoughts. Remember, it’s about them, not you. I say a prayer for whatever is attempting to challenge me and do my best to let it go.
Have grace for yourself
No one is perfect and no one ever will be, have some grace for yourself. Don’t be so hard on yourself that you are your own worst enemy. Believe that you hold all the power within. I believe you do. I believe you are brave, strong and highly capable.
Believe that God knows and wants what’s best for you. Take one step forward, 10 steps back and try again. Never give up on your peace.
Protecting your peace will only bring you more peace and you are completely in control. Do you want to live with peace or chaos? The choice is yours. Choose peace today and every day going forward.
