Guys, something important has been top of mind today. As women, or at least in today’s society, we often feel like we have to do it all. Why? Because we feel productive, we think it makes us successful and we believe other people will view us that way too.
Busy schedule? But you’re doing it all!
Let me guess, your day is full of tasks that need to get done by the end of the day. Not only do you have work related tasks, but then you have home front tasks too.
Let’s break it down even further…on top of work and home, you have emotional and physical responsibilities too. This involves being emotionally and physically available for your kids, spouse and even your pet!
Why do you have a busy schedule? Because scheduling everything under the sun throughout the day feels productive. We feel like it owe it to ourselves and others to prove we can do it all.
So we schedule the work, the meetings, the gym, the kids activities, the outings and then maybe we’ll have time (MAYBE) for a little self care. Let’s not forget, FOMO is a real thing too. We definitely don’t want to miss out on anything!
Stop it. Stop doing it all
The thing is though, doing it all actually hurts you. It hurts in the short term and long term. You can’t actually be good at doing everything. Even if you are for a short period of time, you won’t be able to sustain it.
While trying to do everything, you actually get less done. You have more tasks to do, therefore less time to focus on the ones that really matter and give the important things the attention to quality they deserve.
What’s also true – no one cares if you can do it all. Everyone else is so caught up in their own world they don’t have time to watch and care about your every move.
Sure, you can be a role model and mentor to others, but you want to do it for the right reasons and be able to provide good advice. You won’t be good for anyone else if you can’t be good for yourself.
Focus on the top three things
Instead of trying to get everything under the sun accomplished, focus on the top three things that will get you closer to your goals.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Does doing this get me closer to my goals a month from now?
- Will spending time on this help the big picture?
- Who am I actually doing this for?
When you have goals you are trying to achieve, you will never accomplish them by doing everything.
Write down your goals and focus on the top three things that will get you closer each day.
You will be able to invest quality time and start to see real change in your habits and the end up closer and ultimately achieve the life you want to live.
Ask yourself, “do my dreams deserve quality and focus? Or business and chaos with no real end result?”
The answer is clear. Now, clear your schedule and focus on the top three!
Summary
Does all of this sound difficult to you? Of course it does. It’s easier said than done when we’re caught in the busy trap.
So take it slow, start by eliminating or outsourcing one thing per day that doesn’t allow you to get closer to your goals.
