Now that it’s December, allow yourself time for relaxing and resetting from the past year. It’s time to get lost in your own wonderland.
Year end relaxing and resetting
While relaxing and resetting year round is crucial for your mental health and well being, December is a great time to relax and reset for the upcoming year.Ā
2020 has certainly been one for the books. It’s looked very different than years past for the entire world. With all the stress this year has brought on, it’s no wonder we have a harder time fighting off sickness.
The effects of stress on the body and mind
Did you know stress over timeĀ can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other types of sickness? Not to mention what it does to your mental health. Stress is the number one cause ofĀ mental disorders like depression and anxiety.Ā
What’s worse? We cause our own stress. The outcome of your stress levels lies in the choices you make day in and day out.Ā
Every time someone asks me “why something is happening” to them I walk them through the painful truth of how their own actions led to the stress. I don’t do this to hurt them. I do it to equip them to make better decisions to reduce or eliminate the stress in the future.
My own experience with stress,
relaxing and resetting
I was the queen of creating stress in my life while in my 20’s. I graduated college in the middle of a recession right after losing my job, then worked really hard at creating a life society told me to live.
But the ugly truth is, it wasnāt my own life and it took me years to figure it out, the hard way.
The life I created caused a ton of anxiety and stress for a long time. I had to learn how to acknowledge, cope with it and overcome it.
As we close in on the holidays it’s more important than ever to take some time to relax and reset.
December is a great time for taking a pause and self reflecting. Here are some things that will help you:
- Schedule 20 minutes alone each day for the rest of the month to reflect on what youāre grateful for this year.
- Replace one busy task each day with one self-care task such as reading a good book or listening to your favorite podcast. Maybe itās a warm bath by candlelight.
- Take a walk outside for at least 30 minutes.
- Say no to new commitments as they come up if theyāre not good for your mental health.
Summary – relaxing and resetting
I personally love the month of December. Itās the end of the year where everyone slows down. Work doesnāt feel as stressful and home life feels more meaningful. Take some time for yourself this December to relax and reset for the upcoming year.Ā
