How You are Holding Yourself Back from Pursuing Your Dreams
Have you taken a moment to get real with yourself? I mean really real. Let’s say you’ve finally had that aha moment, where you’ve figured out what you want to do with your life and are ready to start pursuing your dreams.
Now that you’ve gotten clarity, it’s time to stop holding yourself back from pursuing your dreams. I’ll show you how…
Quit making excuses to stop holding yourself back – dreams don’t have them
One of the very first things we do when wanting to achieve a new goal is to make excuses. Think about it, when was the last time you didn’t do something because you felt like you had a really good excuse?
When it comes to pursuing your dreams, excuses don’t belong.
Excuses are made up beliefs that allow us to take the easy way out. We may even tell ourselves we can’t do something. That we are incapable or not good enough.
These are all limiting beliefs that only YOU tell yourself.
Forget these thoughts, or the fear of what others will think if you fail. There’s a good chance they’re not even thinking about you and you’re wasting your time worrying about them.
The next time you catch yourself making an excuse, take a step back and reevaluate why.
Don’t let years pass you by
I was talking with one of my coaching clients yesterday who was beating herself up for being in the same job type for five years. She was upset about this because she knew early on it wasn’t the right fit for her.
She has put off pursuing her dreams because she is convincing herself that things will get better with each promotion she’s received. She also is unsure of how to apply or update her resume.
She has this fear that she will never break free from her industry, but she’s holding herself back by making excuses. The only reason she’s in the same job type five years later is because of the lack of action coupled with limiting beliefs.
Don’t get stuck somewhere you KNOW you don’t want to be for years and not pursue your dreams because you believe it will get better. We live in a world where it’s too easy to find something better quickly if you’re unhappy.
Start getting resourceful to pursue your dreams
Like many people, there’s a good chance you can’t quit your day job and start pursuing your dreams right away, I was in those shoes too when I started pursuing my dreams.
This is one of the hardest feelings one can have! But, you need to turn that into opportunity.
Start looking at everyone and everything around you and get resourceful.
One of the very first things I started doing when I realized my calling was to mentor other women at work.
I did this on my own time and reached out to women around me that I knew were struggling.
I then got involved in any and every women’s event in my network that I could.
Have a growing or large social media audience? USE IT! One of the biggest ways I connect with women is through Instagram and Facebook.
Work on your mindset while pursuing your dreams
Have you ever heard the saying “you are your own worst enemy?”
I’ll be the first to admit, mindset work is something I used to believe was a bunch of fluff. Boy was I wrong.
Changing your mindset to see obstacles as opportunities and find the silver lining in everything are game changers.
I had the biggest shift in my business when I started to practice this in everything I do.
Sure, we all get caught up and have bad moments, but it’s how you choose to react to those moments that’s everything!
