How to Make Moves Towards Your Dreams When You are Stuck
Do you ever feel like you have these breakthrough moments when it comes to figuring out your dream and then a week later you’re stuck again? Raising my hand over here! In the years leading up to Boss Gal, I had so many of those moments. It took attempt after attempt at figuring out what I wanted to do to finally get there! I’m here to show you how to make moves towards your dreams when you are stuck.
Shut it down and do something you love to do in your free time
Yup, that’s right. Take a break and walk away from whatever you’re stuck at. Shut it down and walk away for some fun. Let’s face it, even the people who were born knowing what they wanted to do need breaks. Walk away, clear your mind and then come back. You’ll feel refreshed, more clear and ready to dig deep again.
I work in surges from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. The 9-5 thing drives me insane. I’ve always believed everyone’s working hours and work ethic are different. There’s no better way to get stuck than being forced to sit at a desk for 8 hours straight.
Create new weekly goals and get un-stuck!
This is important no matter what your dreams are. A dream without a plan will never work out. Create new goals each week that push you towards your dreams. They don’t have to be lofty, just start small and work up from there.
I like to sit down and make to do lists each week. Some of them include items that occur as often as daily. Seems simple, but they keep me on track and it feels good to check things off the list! Some of this is mental, trust me! Success is a lot of little wins along the way and you’ll see it start to add up as you check things off the list.
Stuck with where to start? Schedule work blocks on your calendar
Now that you’ve cleared your mind and created a to do list, it’s time to schedule the work towards that dream! Use the calendar on your phone or a tool like Asana to create your calendar by day. This will help keep you on track and allow you to check things off your list as you go.
I also have a large desk calendar in my office so I can quickly glance at dates and write down the more important items or events for reference. The more organized you are, the better!
Listen to or read a self help book
One of the best things you can do to stay focused and motivated is find inputs that drive you. For me, it’s listening to career or dream oriented books. These may be how to’s or purely inspirational. Either way, they keep me going and ALWAYS give me new ideas! Check out the most recent one I listened to here through my Audible account – you can get it free if you sign up for a new account!
