Now that we’ve made it through the holiday season, it’s time to decorate for what’s next! I’ve never decorated for Valentine’s Day in the past but I love anything home decor and celebrating love so I decided to this year! I wanted to get creative and diy parts of the decor!
Wreaths, greenery and yarn, oh my!
I always search Pinterest for the best home decor ideas. My main focus is the fireplace mantle. I decided to take a combo of ideas to create my final look (pic below). I usually shop at Joann Fabric Store for craft supplies so I purchased everything from there.
First, I started by picking out a wreath, a styrofoam heart and two green trees to sit on each side of the mantle. Then, found large cardboard letters and 2 colors of yarn to spell out XOXO. You can spell out whatever you’d like by purchasing individual letters from Joann’s, they have several different sizes, material and styles. I got two styrofoam cone tree’s to decorate as well but did not end up using them.
Valentine’s letter and heart decor
Once I found the right size of letters I chose two colors of yarn to wrap them and the styrofoam heart in. You’ll need glue to hold the ends of the yarn in place on the letters/heart. I used a hot glue gun to secure the yarn. The letters take the longest to wrap out of everything, but it’s pretty simple! If you wrap the yarn loosely several times around then pull it tight it will go much quicker!
Completed Valentine’s decor
To complete the look I added this hot pink boa (above). Ok, just kidding – no hot pink boa, just having fun! To complete the look I secured the yarn wrapped heart in the center of the wreath pictured below (also purchased from Joann’s). Then added candles and voila!
Here are all the supplies I used – please note: I did not pay full price for anything as most items were already on sale and I had a 20% off total purchase coupon:
- 3 medium sized spools of yarn: 1 for the X’s and 2 for the O’s and heart (around $6 full price each)
- 1 styrofoam heart (around $7)
- 4 large cardboard letters (around $5 a piece)
- 2 trees (around $24 full price each)
- Leafy wreath (around $79 ((way discounted to $17))
- I already had the candles, candle holders, glue gun, glue sticks and and brown basket the wreath is in
Summary
In summary, it took me a few hours to get all the letters and heart wrapped and placed. It wasn’t hard, just time consuming. What about you? Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day?
